Vacancy Announcement

ANSAB is a civil society organization that has been working for biodiversity conservation and livelihoods improvement across South Asia for three decades. It places community empowerment and economic incentives at the heart of its approach, and has been consistently evolving, consolidating, institutionalizing and advancing the approaches and strategies for the promotion of community-based enterprises and value chains, natural resources management and biodiversity conservation, enabling policy environment and multi-stakeholders.

ANSAB is currently seeking young, energetic and career-oriented field based candidates to implement the project“ Himalayan plants for people: Sustainable trade for biodiversity and development” funded by the UK Government’s Darwin Initiative. This project will be implemented in Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Darchula and Bajhang for 3 years. The detail of the positions with responsibilities, essential skills and qualifications are given below.

Field Coordinator -1 

Duty Station: Jumla

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate field-level implementation of project activities, including management of field-level staff and stakeholders;
  • Coordinate conduction of the project’s baseline study;
  • Build the capacity of community forest user groups (CFUGs)and other stakeholders on sustainable harvesting of high-value high conservation priority NTFPs, business planning, enterprise development, and compliance with Fair Wild certification;
  • Support CFUGs to carry out gap analysis in community forest management plan with respect to NTFP management and Fair Wild certification;
  • Carry out inventory of priority NTFPs and develop management plan;
  • Provide guidance to CFUGs for revision of their management plans incorporating the provision for sustainable production and marketing of NTFPs;
  • Support local entrepreneurs and traders to link with local, regional and national level buyers for their product marketing;
  • Facilitate CFUGs and processing enterprises in the certification process;
  • Coordinate with district and local level government and civil society organizations to enhance synergy to the project.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • B.Sc. in Forestry with four years of experience in relevant field, or M.Sc. in Forestry with 2 years of experience in relevant field;
  • Knowledge on NTFP sector and NTFP-based enterprises, certification, organizing community groups, preparation of community forest management plans, community forest handover process, and development of business plan;
  • Ability to handle forest survey tools and equipment with good knowledge on GIS;
  • Proven report writing and reporting experience and skills;
  • Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work duties under pressure and tight deadlines.

Residents from the project districts or candidates with prior working experience in the district would be an advantage.

Forest Enterprise Facilitator - 2 

Duty Station: Humla and Darchula

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate with the district and local level stakeholders for the successful implementation of the project;
  • Support CFUGs to carry out gap analysis in CF management plan with respect to high-value high conservation priority NTFPs, NTFP management and Fair Wild certification;
  • Carry out inventory of NTFPs and develop management plan;
  • Provide guidance to CFUGs for revision of management plans incorporating the provision for sustainable production and marketing of NTFPs;
  • Support local entrepreneurs and traders to link with local, regional and national level buyers for their product marketing;
  • Develop and mobilize local resource persons (LRPs);
  • Facilitate CFUGs to make them certifiable and also the third party certification process

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Intermediate degree in Forestry with four years of relevant experience or B.Sc. in forestry with two years of experience;
  • Basic knowledge on forest-based enterprise development, and good knowledge on NTFP sector, certification, organizing community groups, CF handover process, and development of business plan;
  • Ability to handle forest survey tools and equipments and familiar with GIS;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work duties under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package;

Residents from the project districts or candidates with prior working experience in the district would be an advantage.
